Throughout this 6 month effort, with technical oversight under the US Army Institute of Surgical Research (USAISR), MaxQ Research will work to help address the challenges faced by the U.S. Armed Services Blood Program (ASBP).

MaxQ will lead the effort towards the development (design, fabrication and testing) of a low- or no-power advanced transportation container technology for the transportation and storage of blood and blood products at or near the battlefront. Traumatic hemorrhage remains the leading cause of combat deaths. Timely and balanced resuscitation with blood components leads to increased survival by achieving hemostasis as quickly as possible. However, transporting and maintaining blood inventory at far forward bases can be challenging. At each step, temperature control is critical if blood is to remain in compliance with established standards; very little variance is allowed. Thus, along with the capability of maintaining these temperatures, a careful record demonstrating the unbroken cold chain is required.
MaxQ aims to demonstrate the technical feasibility of its MaxPlus intelligent temperature control (ITC) system architecture that could be standardized access different legs of the military blood supply chain. With an integrated temperature monitoring system, it would provide real-time thermodynamic energy status and predictive analytics to minimize the risk of temperature excursion for any long duration blood product transportation.

Army Institute of Surgical Research (USAISR) Blood Coagulation Research Department, maintains a comprehensive program to provide tools and means of reducing combat casualty death due to hemorrhage. A major goal of these efforts is improvement of availability of blood products and optimization of delivery of blood to combat casualties.
