Most eye banks still ship corneal tissue in insulated boxes made for something else, then write their own pack-out around them. That works until a flight is delayed over a weekend or a box waits on a loading dock in January, and the protocol was never tested against either one.

Winter is when corneal tissue is most likely to fall out of range. Cargo holds, loading docks and unheated courier vans can drop well below freezing for hours at a time. In chamber testing, CorneaPack Pro went through 108 hours of ambient swings between 18°C and −10°C and its payload stayed between 2.5°C and 7°C. CorneaPack Core went through 72 hours of swings down to −5°C, and its lowest payload reading was 3.0°C.
